Book Trailers

On Thursday and Friday Rooms 8 and 9 created some Book Trailers for some of the books in our library. We did this to promote some of the books in our library to get others to read them.

During this process the students had to learn:

  • storyboarding
  • techniques for making a good trailer
  • filming techniques
  • editing video and sound techniques.

The students had an absolute blast creating these. While some are not finished (they will be done so later next week), we have a couple below to give you a taste.

Conflict Solution

Last term we looked at Conflict and how we could make a difference at Oaklands School by helping students to manage their conflict. Isabella and Natasha have been working on a solution and are about to make a proposal to Mrs Gatherer. This slideshow is part of their sales pitch:

A Response from our Pen Pals

At the end of last term we received letters from some students at a school in England. We responded in kind to these letters. Our pen pals have left a message on our blog. You can listen to it here.

Hunters and the Hunted Part 2

Over the past couple of days we have been trying to define the what a producer, carnivore, herbivore and scavenger/decomposer is in a food chain. We created charts to show how these groups interact in the food chain.

The Hunters and the Hunted

For our Science Unit on the Living World we are looking at the deep understanding of Ecosystems are a balancing act. To introduce this the students explored this quote from Joans Salk. “If all insects on Earth disappeared, within 50 years all life on Earth would end. If all human beings disappeared from the Earth, within 50 years all forms of life would flourish.” Here are some examples of what some students thought about this statement. These are just there initial thoughts which will develop/change over the course of the unit. Mereana's thoughts
